We woke up, sad to know we would have to start heading towards home today and say goodbye to the beach. Three days ago I booked a campsite just outside of Jacksonville, about 3.5 hours away, so we didn't have to leave right away.
We went to a section of the beach we hadn't been to yet, right next to the dog friendly beach. We were there early and there was barely anyone else out. And it was low tide. We walked south for a bit and came to a point on the beach where there was a section of sand that was 20-30 feet out in the water, but wasn't being covered by the waves. Joe walked out on it and immediately spotted the biggest shark tooth we found the whole trip, just right on top of the sand. This whole area was a goldmine, and we will forever know it as Shark Tooth Point. The shallow waters brought in stingrays, but they did their own thing and we did ours for a few hours. This area was also right under the flight path of more planes headed to the airport, so lots of sky action.
We eventually walked down the beach a bit and through the dog area. So many dogs! All of them running and playing and swimming. Made us miss Odabe, he would swim and swim until he couldn't swim anymore if you would let him.
It was starting to get super hot, and almost noon, so we headed out. We took the interstate for a bit, but once we were past Tampa we took Highway 301 most of the rest of the day. Went through a lot of small towns, and even saw a few hills along the way. Lots of country. We took a quick detour to drive through a section of The Villages, a master planned 55+ community that is taking over this section of the state and doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. Made it to our campground a bit before sunset. Turns out, I booked our site for the following Friday on accident. Luckily, they had a walk-up site available, just about everything else was booked though. We admired our teeth, had a fire, ate some crappy chicken wings from the grocery store, and looked at the stars. It was a perfectly clear night.
