We knew we had a long day of driving and got on the road early. We continued south through a whole bunch of nothing, followed by a really long stretch of nothing, and eventually crossed into Florida just before lunch. We got back on the interstate and there was so much traffic for the rest of the trip. It was late afternoon when we got to our home for the next few nights at Myakka State Forest. This campground is awesome, and probably the least expensive place you can make a reservation at in the whole state. There are 9 sites available, and each site is secluded from the rest. We got set up and then went for a walk out on the trails. This campground used to be way bigger, but a lot of the sites are grown over now, either because of the hurricane from last year or they just wanted to downsize.
We had an awesome dinner, steak, zucchini, carrots and got a nice fire going. Such a quiet dark site. I swear I heard a monster heading towards us, but Joe thinks raccoon. The animals in the brush are much smaller than they sound, I hope.
We spent around $110/day, which is pretty close to what we were expecting based on past travels. We did start with groceries and fuel, but will end with some food and maybe some fuel, not a full tank though. Fuel $517.62 Grocery $432.68 Campsite $390.00 Restaurant $80.00 Stuff $71.98 Tolls $25.50 Firewood $20.00 Park fee $13.00 Laundry $8.00 Van wash $2.50 Trip total $1,561.28
